From the Baltimore Region GIS Committee…..
One of the goals of the Baltimore Region GIS Committee (BRGISC) has been to provide educational opportunities to its members. To this end, the Baltimore Metropolitan Council is proud to announce that we will be offering the following class free of charge to GIS staff in the BMC region.
Spatial SQL: A Language for Geographers
Monday, July 31, 2017
9:00am – 4:30pm
Baltimore Metropolitan Council
This is similar to the class that was offered at TUGIS and will be customized for municipal staff in our region by extending the training to a full day, and using local data from Maryland. As class space is limited, we will be able to offer 3 slots to partner organizations. Organizations wishing to participate must register by Monday, July 3. After that date, any slots that have not been used by BRGISC members will be given away to a different organization.
Please note this class will require that each participant bring their own laptop. The participant will be required to download and install Open Source (free) software prior to arriving at the class. If using a government laptop, it will the the responsibility of the GIS manager and the attendee to work with their IT staff to get the software installed. Directions for installing the data is located below.
Directions to the BMC office is found at http://www.baltometro.org/about-bmc/directions-to-bmc. Participants should park in the garage. The first floor of the garage near the BMC office does not require paying a meter and building management knows you may be there longer than the posted time limit.
You can download the training data here, and you can watch the video to learn how to install the software and data for the workshop below.
